Ik ren tegen kanker tijdens de TCS Amsterdam Marathon
My cousin Katrien is currently dying of cancer. She is 45 years old and has a husband and one child. She has 5 more weeks to live. Her mother, my aunt, died 10 years ago of cancer. A genetic mutation BRCA runs in our family, on the side of my mother. Sadly enough my own mother also has this gene, which means that she has +70% chance of having breast cancer after the age of 70. My brother and I both have a 50% chance of having this gene, which would make us much more susceptible to developing cancer at later stage in life. In other words, cancer runs through my family and I wish more could be done to stop this disease. I would like to play my own part and raise funds to contribute to cancer research. I am planning to raise funds through my family and friends. I want to run this marathon for my cousin Katrien, who will not be alive at the time. I hope that my contribution can safe other patients and families that need to live by this terrible disease.
