TeamTieme x New York Marathon

It’s already been over two years since we lost our friend Tieme, a year in which the unthinkable became reality. 

Every day, we still look back on him with pride. On his strength, his perseverance, and the way he kept fighting. He is a huge inspiration to all of us


Soon, I will be standing at the start line of the New York City Marathon. Running 42.195 kilometers through the five boroughs of New York City, ending in Central Park. While it will be one of the greatest physical challenges of my life, the reason I am running goes far beyond the distance itself. Every kilometer I run during training and on race day is for something much bigger than myself. I am running to raise money for KWF Cancer Society through Team Tieme.

Tieme’s Story

In May 2023, our lives changed forever. Tieme, my sister’s boyfriend, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. What followed was an incredibly difficult journey filled with treatments, uncertainty, hope, and setbacks. Through it all, Tieme stayed positive. Even during the hardest moments, he kept looking for the good in every day. Together with my sister he continued to create beautiful memories and make the most of the time they had together.

On April 2, 2024, Tieme passed away as a result of Ewing Sarcoma. He was only 22 years old. His kindness, strength, and positive attitude left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Team Tieme & Research into Ewing Sarcoma

After Tieme passed away, Team Tieme was created to honor his life and continue his legacy. Every year, family and friends come together to raise money for KWF Cancer Society and support research into Ewing Sarcoma. Because Ewing Sarcoma is so rare, research receives far less funding than many other cancers. We want to help change that. More research means better treatments, more hope, and a better future for people who are diagnosed with this disease.

Running the New York City Marathon is my way of contributing. I run in memory of Tieme, for my sister, Tieme's family, friends, and for everyone affected by Ewing Sarcoma.

The hundreds of training kilometers ahead will require dedication and perseverance. But carrying Tieme and my sister in my heart gives me all the motivation I need for every step. However, the real impact comes from doing this together.
