42 km for those we lost and those still with us
I'm running the NN Marathon Rotterdam for KWF, the Dutch Cancer Society.
Cancer has affected my extended family more than once. Several relatives have died from it. Others survived, and I'm grateful they are still with us. Much of the difference between those outcomes comes from research: earlier detection and better treatment.
KWF is one of the main funders of cancer research in the Netherlands. When it was founded in 1949, about 1 in 4 patients was still alive five years after diagnosis. Today it is 2 in 3. Research results are shared internationally, so this work also improves treatment in Romania, Denmark and elsewhere.
I'm running for the relatives we lost and for those who are still here. I'll run the 42 km; if you want to help, any amount makes a difference.
