Brendon Miller

In January, I’m taking part in HYROX Amsterdam through a charity place with KWF, the Dutch Cancer Society. I’m raising €750 to support cancer research and care for people affected by cancer.

When I think about why this cause matters to me, I think of Dominic “The Warrior” Watson. At my first job at Warrior’s Way Martial Arts Academy in Wichita Falls, Texas, I got to know the children who came to our classes. When you see them regularly, you become attached to them, and Dominic was a really sweet kid. 

He developed an aggressive brain tumor, and our community raised money for his family and tried to support them however we could. I remember him coming to class between chemotherapy treatments. 

He passed away in 2018, at the age of 12. Knowing him and seeing what he and his family went through has stayed with me. Years later, I still feel a lot when I think about him. He’s someone I’ll be thinking of as I train for this event.
