I’m running against cancer during HiPRO Utrecht Marathon 2026.

According to WHO, cancer is the leading cause of death (worldwide) accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020. The IARC (The International Agency for Research on Cancer) estimates that 1 in 5 people develop cancer during their lifetime and approximately 1 in 9 men and 1 in 12 women die from the disease. There is hope though! Researchers all around the world are fighting against cancer with scientific breakthroughs in cancer research that range from better treatment and new clues abou the causes of cancer to precision oncology and  enhanced early-stage prediction capabilities.

KWF Kankerbestrijding ( The Dutch Cancer Society) funds research groups and projects affiliated with universities and cancer research institutions. Their mission is to support the prevention and early detection of cancer as well as the promotion of better treatment methods to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their loved ones. As a prime example, KWF recently announced that they are investing €3.2 million in a large-scale pilot study to determine whether prostate cancer in the Netherlands can be detected early in a responsible and effective way. To this end, I’ve decided to start a fundraiser and run against cancer at the HiPRO Utrecht Marathon. Instead of paying the organization’s hefty €49 registration fee, I’d much rather donate that amount and encourage the people around me to do the same. Please help me reach my goal by contributing to this fundraiser. No donation is too small, every bit counts
