Lion’s Mane

We’re Michel and Lorenzo—father-in-law and son-in-law, running partners, and team Lion’s Mane.

This October, we’re running the Amsterdam Half Marathon together and raising money for KWF, the Dutch Cancer Society.

For us, this is personal. Michel lost his mom to cancer when he was 15. She never got to meet his four children, not even his oldest daughter Mia, who is now Lorenzo’s wife. Today, family members and friends are facing cancer themselves.

We’re running in memory of Michel's mom, for those living with cancer now, and in the hope that more families will have more time together.

Running has become something we love sharing. Lorenzo got into it last year and has embraced everything from shoes to training plans with considerable enthusiasm. Michel’s unofficial job is to remind him to take it easy. Amsterdam started as an idea for Lorenzo’s 30th birthday; now it’s also a chance to do something useful with all those kilometres.

We reached our minimum goal of €1,500 in two days – race entries are secured. Our goal now is €2,500, and every euro from here goes straight to KWF, supporting cancer research and better care for people affected by cancer.
