I run against cancer — as a son, as a scientist, and as an AED-emergency runner.
I’m running the NN Marathon Rotterdam 2026 to raise money for cancer research — funding that is urgently needed, because 1 in 2 people in the Netherlands will be diagnosed with cancer.
This mission is deeply personal to me.
During my master’s studies, my father was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. After a major surgery and years of recovery, he returned to a normal, healthy life. But this September, another diagnosis — bladder cancer — brought us back to the same hospital corridors we hoped we would never revisit.
As a chemical engineering professor working closely with biotechnology, I see firsthand how scientific advances change lives.
Better diagnostics, better treatments, and better outcomes all begin with research.
I am also an AED rescue runner, trained to respond during races and emergencies. Running has taught me that every second matters, and every step can save a life. Now I want my steps to contribute to saving even more lives — through cancer research.
By sponsoring my run, you’re supporting not only my marathon, but also the essential work of the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF), bringing hope and a future to patients and families.
From my family, myself, and KWF: thank you.
